With over 15 years experience working for Condé Nast Publications, New York based stylist Brian Coats is unmatched in his expert abilities to craft a story with clothes, running the gamut from styling and art-directing a picture in the Costa Rican rainforest to editing a wardrobe of the 10 most coveted stylish items. Originally from North Carolina, Brian graduated from Parson's with a BFA in Fashion Design, and then went on to work at Bill Blass. After a chance meeting with a fashion editor who pushed him to interview with Condé Nast, Brian moved to Vogue, where he assisted the legendary editor André Leon Talley and ran the fashion closet.
Following his career at Vogue, Brian moved over to GQ to work under their creative director and industry icon, Jim Moore. After just two years, Brian was promoted to Senior Fashion Editor where he was responsible for styling GQ's fashion editorials, celebrity portraits, and cover shoots.
Brian has collaborated with some of the best photographers in the fashion industry, including Nathaniel Goldberg, Annie Leibovitz, Paola Kudacki, Sebastian Kim, and Richard Burbridge. He also has consulted for brands such as A.P.C., Michael Kors, Armani Exchange and GAP, helping them refine their image and merge the brand with its marketplace.
While Brian is now embarking on a freelance career, sharing his expertise in styling, consulting and advertising, he remains a contributing fashion editor at GQ, where he continues to reach a wide fashion audience.
